Welcome back, everyone! How are you all enjoying the Winter Olympics Milano Cortina 2026? I’ve been traveling in a bit of a nervous state this month, but I’m so grateful to be inspired by the incredible athletes from around the world competing on this global stage.
All the athletes are of course so amazing but, in particular, Japanese snowboarders have been thriving at these Games. I’ve really enjoyed reading how international media are covering this phenomenon through English newspapers and online articles.
So today, I’ll be sharing some English comments and articles about Japanese athletes that will surely give us wisdom, courage, and hope. If you’re working toward something challenging right now, I hope today’s episode brings you inspiration and a little extra love.

日本史上初のフィギュアペア金メダル！〜
フィギュアペアの二人がジャンプを成功させるたびに感動で涙が出ました。そして、もう一人、私の胸を打たれて涙があふれた選手は、骨盤骨折が完治しない中で決勝に挑んだ平野歩夢選手です。
2回目に、史上最高のルーティーンでのパフォーマンスが決まった時に、この緊張と痛みの中でこの場にいることだけでも奇跡なのに、命を削り、生きるか死ぬかの覚悟の中で、逃げることなく、正々堂々と闘う姿に胸が震え、日本の誇りだと感じました。メダルの色では測れない、人としてあり方や深い精神性にはリスペクトしかありません。
オーストラリアの金メダリスト候補だったスノーボーダーScotty Jamesが惜しくも銀メダルになり、表彰台でも会見でも悔し涙を流していました。そんな複雑な感情の中でも、日本のメダルラッシュの背景と日本人の強さについてJapan Timesにこんなふうに語っています。
